July 21 9AM CT Morning: Hitting the Pause Button: Realigning with Jesus in Ever-Changing Times
- Led by Rob Shrumpf
July 21 1PM CT: LGBTQ+ Outreach and Care
- Led by Mitchell Yaksh
Session Description: We can all agree on one thing: LGBTQ+ individuals are loved by God, created in His image, and in need of the saving grace of Jesus Christ — just like any other person. So what can the global Church do to reach out to this community without composing theology or being a stumbling block to God’s love? We’ll look at this difficult balance, learning about the people in the LGBTQ+ community, the theological issues at play, and how to navigate some of the conversations involved.
Mitchell Yaksh is the discipleship pastor at First Church of the Nazarene in Decatur, IL. He worked in LGBTQ+ Outreach and Care personally for several years before moving into it professionally in 2017. He has led workshops at individual churches and the Intentional Church Conference and has also traveled with Lead Them Home’s Posture Shift seminar across North America to train ministry leaders in caring for the LGBT+ community. Just recently, Mitchell was the lead editor for the book, Guiding Families of LGBT+ Loved Ones, Essential Edition, which was published in November 2019. Mitchell and his wife Emily have a 4-year old daughter, Violet Mae.
